“send them back to their own country” “go back home” “fuck off to your own country”

just a few phrases of many that annoy the shit out of me

lambethnights: Obviously as a white male, I will most likely never find myself in a situation where my culture is being appropriated, however I agree wholeheartedly on your post. I'd like to add that the asos jewellery recently posted is probably one of the better examples of culture appropriation for people who aren't familiar with it. The head pieces are extremely reminiscent and similar to those worn in Hindi marriage ceremonies, not to mention that they market them with the word "Tikka". Ridiculous.

i wouldn’t say that jewellery that is inspired from/comes from other cultures that is coming into fashion (does that makes sense, idk) is a way of exposing yourself to a culture, it’s pretty far from it. i don’t think when people wear a bindi on their forehead, they actually research the culture and what it’s about before they wear it, instead they wear it because it’s “in fashion” or it “looks cool” and couldn’t actually give a rats arse about the culture. it makes someone belonging to that culture feel as if it’s just a trend and you’re just taking that part of someones culture for your own use without actually caring for what it’s about.

culture appropriation is a very shitty thing and you can’t tell people to get over it when you being white, will never be affected by it.

Anonymous: what's wrong with the headchains asos is selling like idgi?

it’s culture appropriation

the sooner people realise culture appropriation is fucking shitty, the better.
